Me and Reading
I knew it's been a while I didn't post anything, but really, I don't feel like writing most of the time. I feel terrible you know, neglect the blog, while the only post I have is rant about my dislike toward Cursed Child. It's like I specifically made a blog just to spite it. No, I was not that bitter.
I found a really interesting tweet today and I guess I'm gonna talk about it a bit...
The tweet just saying that, here, most people thought that reading fiction is such a waste of time and a non-intellectual thing to do. I mean, the writer was not wrong thou. My father is also a person who think like that. My mother in the other hand, like to read fiction as well. She was the one who told me to read Agatha Christie. She is now mostly love to read non-fiction nowadays (talking about wellness or yoga, or anything like that), but she never belittle fiction.
When I was a child, comic books definitely forbidden to buy, unless it was somehow "educational" comic books. I still own some thou, either be given by cousins, or when I went to mall with only my friends, I put my allowance to buy some comic books, like Detective Kindaichi, Doraemon or even some kind of cheesy romance. I was in love with comic books for quite some time. I mean, I can read them in one sitting and most of them are graphic, so you know, easy and fast reading.
Then, it was maybe end of my JHS when my friends mostly read about teenlit or maybe now called as Young Adult genre. I read some of the teenlit, borrowed of course, the horror of cannot talk with your peers cause you missed the hot topic (FOMO game is so strong when you are teenager).
I love fiction books. Back then, it was my way to escape my boring life. It was a gateway to step into someone else's life (which I thought cooler than me). Do I still read fiction, of course. Why should I stop just because someone else it was useless? But yes, I choose my kind of fiction. I rarely read romance books, I tried to read some of those Harlequin, but nope, not my cup of tea. But I watch romance, don't get me wrong.. I don't hate it, but maybe I prefer to watch it than read it.
I prefer detective stories or anything about journey or adventure. I have quite collection of Agatha Christie as my favorite detective stories. I was obsessed with Poirot previously, but Miss Marple is okay, others are okay, except Tommy and Tuppence, ugh, those spionage thing are really not Agatha Christie's strongest charm.
Talking about adventure, of course, I LOVE Harry Potter, massively, I can accept Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but never the Cursed Child (I even dedicated a rant post for that cursed book). Lately, I got my hands of Percy Jackson series, Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase series by trully yours Rick Riordan, and I love all of them. I know, sounds like, eh, young adult adventures? Don't worry, I like American Gods and Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman as well. Adult enough? 😜
Do I read non-fiction, sure does. I did read somewhat popular Sapiens and Homo Deus. It was my first attempt on being adult, okay, I picked those, and ended up liking them, although, somehow put a similar idea inside, so, bit on the repetitive side. They are my most popular non-fiction collection, that I cannot recall, whatelse I got in collection... LOL
So, you do you... Read whatever you like, people will still talking anyway.
My advice, sometimes, try to buy something that completely different than your go-to genre. You might find a gem.
Cheers!
